 The Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DCCDRRMO) has alerted all residents living in mountainous and low-lying areas in the city as tropical cyclone “Caloy” approaches Davao City.

Based on weather forecast from Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Caloy is expected to be at 95 kilometers northeast of Davao City Saturday morning with a sustained wind of 45 kilometers per hour near the center.

On Sunday morning, PAGASA said Caloy will be at 70 kilometers North of Cotabato City.

The estimated rainfall amount is at 5-15 mm per hour or moderate to heavy rains will be experienced in Davao City and nearby provinces.

As of 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Davao City was placed under storm signal Number 1 along with Davao Oriental, Davao del Norte, Compostela Valley Province, northern part of Davao del Sur, Surigao del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Agusan del Norte, North Cotabao, Bukidnon, and Misamis Oriental.

Residents in these areas were also alerted for possible flashfloods and landslides due to continuous rains.

Since March 19, local government units in Compostela Valley province and Davao del Norte have implemented preemptive evacuations of residents after noting that the water level of Saug River in Asuncion, Davao del Norte and Manat River in Nabunturan in Comval Province rose to beyond normal level.

Based on the record from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, there are nine barangays affected in Asuncion, Davao del Norte involving 16,765 persons; eight barangays in Nabunturan, Comval province with 16,935 individuals. (PNA)
