DAVAO DEL NORTE: Santo Tomas Mayor Ernesto Evangelista to break mayoral one-term jinx in 2022 election

Supporters of Mayor Ernesto Evangelista laughed off talks the reelectionist mayor of Santo Tomas town is not going to get a second term.

The talks, a political tale often normally taken as a joke, are spawned by what Tomasinos call as a “jinx” — no elected mayor has ever earned a second victory in the local elections.

But supporters of 78-year old Mayor Evangelista are confident the former cop could break the “one-term only” legend that hounded the political careers of the town’s former mayors.

Mayor Evangelista seeks a second term in the May polls in 2022 amid the backdrop of a first term marked by outstanding peace and order situation, corruption-free governance, enhanced economic development and responsive social, health and education services never experienced in the previous administrations.

Santo Tomas Municipal Administrator Atty. Elisa Evangelista Lapina: Outstanding performance would convince Tomasinos to give Mayor Evangelista an overwhelming vote for another term come 2022.

Mayor Evangelista runs Santo Tomas with a reliable partner, no less than daughter Atty. Elisa Evangelista-Lapina.

The young lawyer is already a veteran in governance having held posts, before being appointed as Santo Tomas administrator, during her stint with the Davao City government under Mayor Sara Duterte, among others as a an attorney at the City Legal Office and action officer of Mayor Duterte’s Peace 911, an anti-insurgency special body that helped free the far-flung mountain village of Paquibato from the clutches of communist rebels.

Atty. believes the jinx sentenced previous mayors to a single term due more to corruption and poor governance and delivery of basic public services.

Based on Mayor Evangelista’s track record of public service in his first term, Atty. Lapina said the so-called jinx would be useless against the mayor’s outstanding performance that would convince Tomasinos to give him an overwhelming vote for another term come 2022.

In next year’s battle, Mayor Evangelista would be up against a neopphyte politician and a former mayor who could be a victim of the jinx, for the second time, because of his uneventful performance when he was the mayor.

MSDO-OIC Leilani Mae Rafol said that her office is now preparing the needed documents for Orpianaโ€™s admission in Home For The Aged. Among the requirements were medical certificate, result of his RT-PCR swab, X-ray result, and the case study that should be prepared by the social worker.

Rafol said Opiana is temporarily staying at Balay ni Tomas while all the documents are being complied with by the agency. โ€œAtong ginabuhat karon is naghatag lang kita og immediate care sa kay Tatay Orpiana since naay moral responsibility ang LGU ani na case kay murag he was neglected na sa iyang pamilya.

No photo description available.

However, the assistance na mahatag nato sa iyaha diri sa Balay Ni Tomas is limited maong didto nato siya ibutang sa foster home kay maatiman jud siya didto kauban ang ubang elderly. While naa siya sa amoa, ginapaningkamutan namo na mahatag sa iyaha ang compassion ug assistance,โ€ Rafol said.

Rafol said that the MSWDO under the administration of Mayor Ernesto Evangelista had taken the necessary steps to enhance the care-giving abilities of the personnel who look after the sick, frail, bedridden or abandonedsenior citizens.

She added that the 83-year-old Opiana should be taken to a foster home since he has no means already of meeting basic nees and since his family had deserted him, and therefore, he no longer receives appropriate care, protection, and support.

Earlier, Mayor Ernesto Evangelista ordered the Dangpanan Ni Tomas and MSWDO to process the necessary document for Orpianaโ€™s admission in the Home For The Aged, a foster home for abandoned elderly in Tagum City. ####AksyonAngSolusyon#EvangelistaLegacy#BagongSantoTomas

Redefining the meaning of BUILDING A LEGACY

By Ronald B. Jayectin

For the third time, the political tandem of incumbents’ Asuncion Mayor Yuri Dayaday and Vice Mayor Jing Camello filed their certificate of candidacy before the COMELEC, yesterday, October 5, 2021, with their political slogans “ITULOY ANG PAGBABAGO.”

My analytic opinion and academic interpretation of their actions, “re-election bid”, is more than its political nature but in the dynamism of the true government service for the people of Asuncion towards equal distributions of development between the poor and less fortunate and the business sectors.

The Dayaday-Camello tandem is not building political stronghold in Asuncion but they are redefining the actual interpretative meaning of BUILDING A LEGACY.

Allow me to discuss.

They are seeking new mandate so that they could continue there five (5) major line-up projects until year 2025, and the perhaps reason why they filed on Oct. 5, and to wit:LOCAL SHELTER PROJECTS.

Almost 7,000 informal settlers, doubled-up households, family belongs to ,poverty level threshold in Asuncion will be benefited in the next three years as planning experts from MPDO and Housing Office is now finalizing the plan for submission to the Department of Human Settlement and Urban Development and its attached financial agencies for counter parting the financial requirements of the projects.

Preparing Asuncion progressive economic development in industry, market, agri-venture, tourism, and other economic driven institutions that may result to upsurge garbage collections. The reason why budget for sanitary landfill development was already laid and construction will start in 2022 upon approval of all necessary national permits

The peasant farmers in the agricultural sector as Asuncion No.1 economic driver will be benefited in the unending farm to market road development and rehabilitation. Agri-products will now reach and available to the market with less handling and transport costs.

The strong working relation of the Municipal Government of Asuncion and the Philippines Crop Insurance Services will continue to provide financial benefits to the farmers whose farmlands were stricken by natural calamities.

The Dayaday administration will continue to seek ways and initiative to upgrade the medical facilities of the Municipal Heath Office to address the needed medical services of its constituents including availability of Doctor and other health related experts The administration will also upgrade and capacitate the human development thru advance training adherence to disaster management.
