COMELEC WILLING TO VOID BONGBONG MARCOS CANDIDACY

“They have to resolve the issue before the elections so that the voters would know the status of the candidate,” said Larrazabal.

In the petition, Marcos, son of the late unlamented dictator President Ferdinand Marcos, Sr., was accused of having made “false material representation,” in his Certificate of Candiday (CoC) filed with the poll body.

Marcos has a tax case conviction from the court, which is a ground for disqualification of a candidate under the Omnibus Election Code.

The petitioners say Marcos, who wants to follow in the footstep of his much-maligned father who placed the country under two decades of cruel martial rtule, committed a misrepresentation when he filed his COC fully aware that he was not eligible to run in the elections. due to his conviction.

“Ine-expect natin ang final list mga around December. Ayun ang final. Ang pagsasala magagaganap ngayon hanggang that point,” Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said during an interview with radio DZBB.

Jimenez said that not all who filed their certificates of candidacy (COC) will be included in the official list. He added that 95% are considered as nuisance candidates by the Comelec that must be removed from the official list.

“Again, sa pagka-Presidente lang 97. Ang dami mo nang sasalain kaagad. Sa VP [vice president], 28. Medyo talagang maraming trabaho,” Jimenez said.

“Unang tingin mo pa lang alam mong makakatanggal ka ng mga 95% na mga magfile. Siguro matitira sa atin hindi lalampas ng sampu,” he added.
