TRILLANES: ‘President Leni’ to stop destructive Duterte regime

By ROGER M. BALANZA

“We must ensure that VP Leni will win as president to stop the destructive Duterte regime. After this, we can now start the rebuilding process for country and that is the perfect role for future President Leni.”

This is the manta dished out by former Senator Antonio Trillanes as he vowed full support for Vice President Leni Robredo who is seeking the presidency in the 2022 elections.

Trillanes urged voters to support Robredo’s candidacy after he filed his certificate of candidacy for senator on Friday, October 8, 2021. The former lawmaker is eyeing a return to the Senate after spending the past three years as a vocal government critic and a college professor.

The former senator vowed to continue hhis anti-corruption and governance reforms advocacy if elected senator. He has pledged to help the Robredo administration “in making those officials who abused their power, especially in this time of pandemic, accountable through the oversight functions of the Senate.”

The opposition coalition 1Sambayan in an internal survey has picked Vice President Leni Robredo as standard-bearer and former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV as vice president in the 2022 election .

Accordingly, the internal survey was conducted by the coalition from September 12 to 25 and the results presented during the coalition’s general assembly on Tuesday.

Five names for president were listed in the survey: Robredo, Trillanes, Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso, Senators Manny Pacquiao, and Panfilo Lacson.

Moreno, Pacquiao and Lacson have all declared their presidential bid while Robredo has yet to decide whether or not to join the presidential race.

Lacson earlier declined the 1Sambayan’s offer to be part of its presidential nominees. Trillanes last May said he would run for president if Robredo is not interested.

Other than Trillanes, the survey for vice president listed Senator Grace Poe, Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, and former Senator Bam Aquino.

In the survey, Trillanes led with 46,310 votes, followed by Poe with 40, 056, Aquino with 19, 855, and Sotto with 16, 391.

TRILLANES TO REVEAL CORRUPTION BY DUTERTE AND GO

Ready to bare next week the anomalous transactions

GO: If he would only make an insinuation and engage in character assassination, we would just waste our time with Trillanes’ invented story. And if he really knows something, why wait for next week?

Go unfazed by new Trillanes’ mudslinging

Senator Christopher “Bong” Go on Friday took a swipe at former senator Antonio Trillanes IV for crafting an “invented story” about his and President Rodrigo Duterte’s supposed involvement in corruption activities.

This, after Trillanes bared his plan to reveal next week the alleged irregularities committed by Duterte and Go.

If he would only make an insinuation and engage in character assassination, we would just waste our time with Trillanes’ invented story. And if he really knows something, why wait for next week)?” Go said in a statement.

In a Twitter post on Thursday, Trillanes slammed Duterte for asking government agencies accused of corruption to cooperate with possible inquiries that would be initiated by Senator Manny Pacquiao.

Trillanes also turned the tables on Duterte, whom he said had “many alibis” on ill-gotten wealth allegations even before he became president in 2016.

Trillanes added that he is ready to bare next week the anomalous transactions involving Duterte and Go.

Go expressed confidence that Trillanes would not be able to substantiate his claim against him and Duterte.

We’re used to it already. He will make an accusation which is baseless because all he knows is invent stories),” Go said.

Go also scoffed at Trillanes’ modus” to taint others’ reputation to gain public attention.

He added that Trillanes is making another unfounded claim since the latter is considering running for president in the 2022 national elections.

“‘Yan na modus niya mula noon. Pintahan ng itim ang iba para siya ang mapansin. Hanggang ngayon hindi pa rin niya matanggap na wala na siyang maloloko sa ganyang kalokohan niya (That’s his modus. To taint others so he will be noticed by the public. Until now, he could not accept that no one will be fooled by his nonsense),” he said.

Contrary to Trillanes’ claim, Go said he and the Duterte administration are doing their best to eliminate corruption in government.

Halos bawat linggo may sinususpinde o tinatanggal sa puwesto, sibak dito, sibak doon (To our countrymen, our only desire is to fight corruption in government. That is President Duterte’s promise that’s why the anti-corruption drive remains relentless. Almost every week, government workers involved in corruption are either suspended or removed from office. There’s a firing spree),” Go said.

Go also urged the public to report corruption activities and other anomalies within government.

Isumbong ninyo sa amin ni Pangulong Duterte at kapag mapatunayang totoo, sigurado sibak yan (Let’s help each other. If you know someone, name them and we will investigate and sue them. We just need the truth to hold corrupt government workers accountable. Report it to me and President Duterte. If the allegations are true, they will be fired),” he said. (PNA)

ROBREDO MAY JUNK POLITICS IN 2022

By ROGER M. BALANZA

Not running for any position in the 2022 election is among options being considered by Vice President Leni Robredo.

Robredo, the titular head of the political opposition, is a potential candidate for president in next year’s polls.

I may not run at all, said Robredo, a vocal critic of President Rodrigo Duterte, in her radio program on Sunday.

Since last year, I said I was open to all options–run as president, governor, congressman, mayor. Or to not run at all, which is what my children want, Robredo said in Pilipino.

Two months ago ahead of the May 2022 polls, critics of Duterte, whose term expires next year, formed 1Sambayan, a political coalition.

Lead convenor former Chief Justice Antonio Carpio said Robredo, chairman of the opposition Liberal Party, is among potential candidates being considered to run for president by the coalition.

This even as latest pre-poll surveys for presidential preference conducted by Social Weather Station and Pulse Asia showed Robredo faring badly against other potential candidates like presidential daughter Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, who topped the surveys.

On Wednesday, former Senator Antonio Trillanes in a statement bared his plan to run for president, claiming that Robredo is preparing to run for Camarines Sur governor.

With Robredo out of the race to Malacanang, Trillanes said that his Magdalo group will push him as the presidential candidate of the opposition coalition 1Sambayan as an alternative to Robredo.

This was however dismissed as false by the Robredo camp.

ROBREDO STILL EYEING PRESIDENCY IN 2022 ELECTON

“There is absolutely no truth to the claim that she is making ‘preparations’ to run for governor of Camarines Sur,” Gutierrez said,

“This is not the time for politicking, but for working for the people’s welfare,” said Gutierrez, who adds that Robredo will announce her future political plans at the proper time.
