MSDO-OIC Leilani Mae Rafol said that her office is now preparing the needed documents for Orpianaโ€™s admission in Home For The Aged. Among the requirements were medical certificate, result of his RT-PCR swab, X-ray result, and the case study that should be prepared by the social worker.

Rafol said Opiana is temporarily staying at Balay ni Tomas while all the documents are being complied with by the agency. โ€œAtong ginabuhat karon is naghatag lang kita og immediate care sa kay Tatay Orpiana since naay moral responsibility ang LGU ani na case kay murag he was neglected na sa iyang pamilya.

No photo description available.

However, the assistance na mahatag nato sa iyaha diri sa Balay Ni Tomas is limited maong didto nato siya ibutang sa foster home kay maatiman jud siya didto kauban ang ubang elderly. While naa siya sa amoa, ginapaningkamutan namo na mahatag sa iyaha ang compassion ug assistance,โ€ Rafol said.

Rafol said that the MSWDO under the administration of Mayor Ernesto Evangelista had taken the necessary steps to enhance the care-giving abilities of the personnel who look after the sick, frail, bedridden or abandonedsenior citizens.

She added that the 83-year-old Opiana should be taken to a foster home since he has no means already of meeting basic nees and since his family had deserted him, and therefore, he no longer receives appropriate care, protection, and support.

Earlier, Mayor Ernesto Evangelista ordered the Dangpanan Ni Tomas and MSWDO to process the necessary document for Orpianaโ€™s admission in the Home For The Aged, a foster home for abandoned elderly in Tagum City. ####AksyonAngSolusyon#EvangelistaLegacy#BagongSantoTomas

Vaccination for elderly continues as Mayor Ernesto Evangelista ramps up inoculation program

The Municipal Government of Santo Tomas is ramping up its inoculation program for senior citizens and persons with comorbidity against COVID-19, targeting at least 500 vaccinees per day in a bid to achieve the herd immunity here.

Mayor Ernesto Evangelista said the Santo Tomas LGU is doing โ€œquite wellโ€ in the vaccination of senior citizens.

He, however, noted that the reason why some people do not get vaccinated is not just because of hesitancy but also due to access issues. SHFC FEATURE: LONG DREAM COME TRUE FOR PWD

LAND TITLE REJUVENATES SENIORย  KAPAMPANGAN

Feliciano dela Cruz, Jr., a person with disability, embodies perseverance. Having poured his energy, time, and resources to do whatever it took to secure his own piece of land, the 66-year-old member of Bagong Silang Homeowners Association felt rejuvenated when he finally got hold of his transfer certificate of title (TCT) on the morning of January 26. “Swerte na talaga ako nito, kasi hawak ko na ‘yung titulo ng lupa ko,” he said.

Even though he had difficulty walking, Feliciano mustered the strength to climb the stage and participate in the title awarding ceremony, which he considered as one of the most memorable moments in his life. “Hindi nga ako nakatulog eh. Gising na ako ng alas-tres ng umaga. Pero nagsimba muna ako. Pinagdasal ko na sana totoo na talaga ito. Kahit na nahihirapan akong maglakad pipilitin ko,” said the senior citizen, who drew loud cheers and thunderous applause when he received his TCT. “Excited ako kasi malaking regalo na ito para sa akin.”

Feliciano had reason to be excited as he had known nothing but insecurity for the longest time. He used to rent a plot in a property that was being eyed by prospective buyers who would come to check the property. “Lagi kong naiisip noon kung kailan kukunin ‘yung lupang kinatitirikan namin, kakaba-kaba ako,” he shared. When the owner finally decided to sell the property, Feliciano and his family got evicted.

In that difficult time Feliciano realized the need to have his own land. “Gusto ko pagtanda ko may sarili akong lupa. Hindiย  ‘yung paikot-ikot ako sa mga kapatid at pamangkin ko,” he shared as he looked back to the times when they needed to transfer from one place to another, when a good night’s sleep was also difficult to achieve for Feliciano and his family. “Kapag squatter ka at walang titulo ang bahay mo, madalas hindi kami makatulog. Kasi iniisip ko lagi kung kailan na naman kami palalayasin dito,” he added.

Although he initially doubted the authenticity of the Community Mortgage Program (CMP), he eventually became a believer and started paying his monthly amortization religiously. “Minson nga kapag kinakapos ako ng pera panghulog, nanghiยญhiram muna ako sa mga kapatid ko para tuluy-tuloy ang aking pagbabayad,” he said shyly.

A single man, Feliciano dedicated his life to helping his family. When his time on earth is through, he vows to leave the land at Bagong Silang for his nieces and nephews. โ€œPara sa kanila talaga ito, baka nga mag away-away pa silo eh,” joked Feliciano, who is a living testament that you can be a parent to another person regardless of your legal or biological relationship as long as you love and care for them.

Feliciano considers himself blessed for the chance to become a CMP beneficiary. “Buti na fang mayroong ganitong programa sa Social Housing na pwedeng hulugan ang lupa,” he said. “lbibida ko ang SHFC sa lahat.”

Aside from Feliciano, 47 other Bagong Silang partner-homeowners received their TCT that day in a ceremony led by SHFC Central Luzon Chief of Division Delia Silvia. Composed of 68 members, the association boasts a collection efficiency rating of 151.41 percent as of September 2019. It was formed through the assistance of its mobilizer, the National Housing Authority.

101-year old Pinay springs up to sing-and-dance stunt for getting P100,000 ‘centenary gift’

Nanay Segundina, 101 years old, sang and danced to express her happiness over an unexpected gift, as theย Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) awarded Php 100,000 cash gift to each of 13ย  centenarians in Davao region.

The DSWD Davao Region office said the centenarians aged from 100 to 105 years.

The monetary gift to centenarians is by virtue of Republic Act 10868 or An Act Honoring and Granting Additional Benefits and Privileges to Filipino Centenarians signed byย President Rodrigo Duterte in 2016.

โ€œOur personnel had to go house-to-house in remotest villages to save the older persons from long and bumpy rides and to ensure that the eligible recipient receives the cash award and signs or thumb marks the payroll following the simple turnover,โ€ DSWD-11 Director Mercedita Jabagat said on Monday.

According to Jabagat, some local government units opted to conduct the awarding as a special municipal ceremony in the presence of the mayor, other local officials and the centenariansโ€™ family members.

โ€œWe target at least 40 centenarians for 2018.

Earlier, validation of centenarians was conducted by DSWD staff to verify the documents submitted such as birth certificate or Philippine passport, senior citizen identification card or any other Philippine government-issued ID which shows age and citizenship,โ€ Jabagat said.

Other alternative and acceptable documents to prove the claim include a marriage certificate, old school documents, baptismal or confirmation records, birth certificate of children, or an affidavit executed by at least two (2) disinterested persons at least 80 years old with personal knowledge of the centenarianโ€™s actual age or birth date.

DSWD focal for older persons Arris Medrano said, โ€œMost of the centenarians can still move around and some even eagerly responded to queries from DSWD personnel.

Nanay Segundina, who is 101 years old, even sang and danced to express her happiness over the unexpected โ€œgiftโ€.

Most were shocked and teary-eyed but all, including their children and grandchildren, were grateful to God and to the government.

Republic Act 10868 or An Act Honoring and Granting Additional Benefits and Privileges to Filipino Centenarians, and for Other Purposes also known as the Centenarians Act of 2016, grants all Filipinos who reach the age of 100, whether residing in the country or abroad, a cash award of Php 100,000 as a โ€œcentenarian gift.โ€

Aside from the cash, they will also receive a Letter of Felicitation signed by President Rodrigo R. Duterte and a posthumous Plaque of Recognition for deceased centenarians who died upon the effectivity of the Act.

Centenarians are also entitled to awards and incentives from their respective city or municipality, to be determined by the local government unit.ย (Carmela Duron/PNA)
