Vice President Leni Robredo on Thursday, October 7, filed her Certificate of Candidacy (COC) for president as an independent candidate and not under the Liberal Party that she chairs.
Robredo filed her COC, hours after she announced her presidential bid on Thursday, October 7.
In a speech to announce her presidential bid earlier Thursday morning , Robredo said she wants to put an end to the incompetence, corruption, and culture of violence that has persisted under the regime of President Rodrigo Duterte.
56-year old Robredo, widow of the late Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo, was accompanied by daughers Aika and Tricia, and her election lawyer, Romulo Macalintal.
Meanwile, reports have it that Sen. Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan is running for vice president in the 2022 elections, in tandem with Robredo.
Pangilinan, 58, is president of once-ruling Liberal Party.
The senator and Robredo have opposed several key policies of President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration, including the war on drugs, stance on the West Philippine Sea, and push for death penalty.
