President Rodrigo Duterte has threatened to file malversation charges against Senator Dick Gordon for alleged misuse of an P86 million fund when he was chair of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA).
Before being elected senator, Gordon served as the chair of SBMA from 1992 to 1998.
Duterte has an ongoing word war with Gordon , triggered by the Senate hearings on Covid-19 multi-billion-peso supply deals awarded to Chinese-owned company Phlamally Pharmaceuticals by the Procurement Service of the Department of Budget and Management. The hearings ferreting out corruption in the deals are speaheaded by the Blue Ribbon Committee chaired by Gordon.
Duterte , in his Talk To The People public address on Wednesday night accused Gordon of pocketing the money flagged by the Commission on Audit (CoA) while he was chair of the SBMA.
“I would like to inquire from the Ombudsman if there is a case filed against you because the money was not returned… Kindly settle, or not, I will personally see to it that a case will be filed against you,” the President said.
