DELA ROSA: DRUG WAR OVER IN 6 MONTHS

Illegal drugs campaign deadline mathematically probable
By Sol Luzano

BIÑAN CITY, Laguna, Aug. 1 (PNA) — The campaign against illegal drugs can be accomplished in six months as ordered by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, according to Philippines National Police (PNP) Chief and Director General Ronald Dela Rosa over the weekend at the Alonte Arena Sports Complex here.

The Chief PNP was guest of honor and speaker in Saturday’s Community Pledge of Commitment Program and Fun Bike Run highlighting the “surrenderees” pledge en masse here before a crowd of 8,000 of local government officials, village chiefs, PNP bikers, bikers club, non-government organizations (NGOs) and other participants.

Dela Rosa emphasized the probability of hitting the illegal drug campaign deadline based on the 430,000 surrenderees on the first month of launching the “Oplan TokHang” for illegal drug pushers and ushers to surrender for rehabilitation and reform their ways.

“Since the launching of Oplan TokHang, there are 430,000 drug personalities who voluntarily surrendered nationwide,” the Chief PNP said adding that the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) reported some 1.8 million drug personalities in the country.

The country’s iron-fist PNP chief calculated “so if we divide the 1.8 million drug personalities as reported by PDEA by six months, we are targeting 300,000 each month and the first month result even exceeded the average.”

Dela Rosa also welcomed the surrenderees and was gladdened that they opted to change their ways and pledged support for the campaign of the government against illegal drugs.

He explained the holistic approach by the government in this campaign, tapping the support from the Departments of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Health (DOH), Education (DepEd), Justice (DOJ) and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) for rehabilitation facilities, medical needs, skills and livelihood programs and free education.

Calabarzon police regional director Chief Supt. Valfrie Tadian said the region had so far 31,772 surrenderees under the vigorous campaign while some 1,389 were arrested with cases filed in court and 57 killed in firefights with police operatives.

The Calabarzon Police Regional Office (PRO-4A) also launched its “Padyak Kontra Droga” (fun bike run against illegal drugs) early Saturday morning with the starting line at its headquarters in Mayapa Village, Calamba City.

More than 1,500 bikers composed of chiefs of police, PNP personnel, bikers club and civil society organizations in the regions joined the bike run passing by the cities of Cabuyao and Santa Rosa towards the Alonte Arena Sports Complex, where they joined in the commitment pledging program graced by the Chief PNP.
