Liberal Party vice presidential candidate Leni Robredo is parting ways with her standard bearer Mar Roxas.
That is in so far as campaign sorties are concerned.
Leni Robredo would maximize the days when she goes solo in sorties to lure more voters to her side, according to her campaign manager Senator Bam Aquino.
DID BAM AQUINO ELABORATE?
The shift in strategy by Robredo’s handlers comes amid party worries that her campaign is being “overshadowed” as she hits the campaign trail together with Roxas.
Ahead of the campaign period, Robredo, a Camarines Sur representative, last yearalready gave a scene of what’s ahead in his tandem with Roxas.
If we go and campaign together all the time, I won’t be able to introduce myself, Robredo said, adding that it won’t do her much good to go around with Roxas all the time because the attention of the people [will always be on Roxas.
Robredo and Roxas going separate is confirmed by a source inside the political bench of the widow of the late Interior secretary Jesse Robredo.
But the source who begged anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter, said there is another “more serious reason” for the split.
Mar does not overshadow Leni. The more serious reason is that Mar is dragging down Leni’s campaign, said the source.
Accordingly, handlers of Robredo are taking a cue from results of the latest surveys.
While Roxas’ ratings are falling down if not stagnant, Robredo’s numbers are steadily increasing, said the source.
We are afraid that Roxas could pull down Robredo if she continues to stick with him, the source said.
Observers say Roxas campaign is saddled by two baggage posing drawbacks to his bid.
His continuing vow to continue the much-ridiculed Tuwad na Daan (Straight Path) of President Aquino if he is elected President is giving the public jitters. Dubbed as Tuwad na Daan (Crooked Path) by critics, the program of governance is equated with allegations and massive corruption in the present.
Roxas is also being buffeted with sour comments for the behavior in public of his wife, ABS/CBN news reader Korina Sanchez, who has joined him in the campaign trail.
In the surveys, Robredo’s rating has improved and she is now inching towards leaders Senator Chiz Escudero and Senator Bongbong Marcos.
