THE STANDARD-LAYLO SURVEY: POE, DUTERTE, BINAY IN STATISTICAL TIE IN TOP SPOT

BY ROGER M. BALANZA

Presidential candidate Rodrigo Duterte grabbed the second spot with only two points away from leader Senator Grace Poe, in the February  presidential preference survey by The Standard.

rody-dThe Davao City Mayor scored 24 percent, a big 4-point leap from his 20 percent in January, while Poe saw her numbers dipping down to 26 percent from 29 percent last month.

At the third spot is Vice President Jejomar Binay with 23 percentage points; Mar Roxas is at 4th spot with 22 percent, while Senator Miriam Santiago  tail-ended the survey with 2 percent.

The latest survey, according to The Standard which published the results on March 7, was conducted nationwide from Feb. 24 to March 1 involving 3,000 respondents who were likely to cast votes in the May 2016 elections.

According to The Standard, with the survey’s national margin of error of +/- 1.8 percent, the top three placers— Poe with 26 percent (down from 29 percent in January), Duterte with 24 percent (up from 20 percent), and Binay with 23 percent (up from 22 percent) — are statistically tied for first place.

“With Poe getting slight declines in vote share, Duterte gaining some points, and Binay and Roxas maintaining their vote support—the presidential race has become tighter,” said The Standard’s resident pollster, Junie Laylo, of the Laylo Research Strategies.
