Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte has clarified that he is not fighting younger sister former mayor Sara “Inday” Duterte-Carpio in the mayoral contest in the coming elections.
Paolo made the clarification in his Facebook account as his resignation from the Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod, the local party founded by his father Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, sparked speculation he is gearing up for battle with Inday Sara for the top post.
“You will never see the day that anyone of us in the family will meet head to head in a political arena” said Paolo.
Mayor Duterte has publicly said that he would like Inday Sara to return to City Hall if he decides to retire from politics after his term expires in 2016.
He said he has been convincing Inday Sara, who served as mayor from 2010 to 2013, to run for mayor in the May 2016 election.
“After serious consideration, I have come to a decision to speak out and put my worth on the table. Not for selfish motives but by the achievements I have earned and the acts and efforts I committed to the Office and to the people. You can be assured that you will never see the day that anyone of us in the family will meet head to head in a political arena. They will always be a family to me,” Paolo wrote in his Facebook account.
The vice mayor also posted the resignation letter he submitted to Hugpong.
