Senate President Franklin Drilon said that Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte is the smartest among the presidentiables.
Drilon said Duterte’s consistent denial of intention to run for president is making him more popular.
Very smart guy. The more he denies, the more that people become aware that he could be a candidate, Drilon said.
There is more to this reverse psychology.
Where can you find a potential presidential candidate who instead of blowing his own horn is rooting for and campaigning for votes for his rivals? Only in Duterte.
Look at Vice President Jejomar Binay and his qualities and look at Senator Grace Poe and her gentleness, Duterte told ANC when asked if he is running for President in 2016.
The results of latest surveys for presidential preference have Poe in the lead, Binay at second and Duterte at third place.
Look at them first. If they don’t fit, then you look towards Mindanao and I will start to think about running for President, Duterte said.
Duterte continues to keep to his heart his plan for 2016.
But in the ANC interview, Duterte said that he sees himself as a possible ”alternative” to the other front-runners in the race.
While he has no plans yet to run for president, Duterte said he might see himself throwing his hat in the ring if it becomes a ”moral” obligation for him to seek the presidency.
For the moment, Duterte said running for President is out of the question
He adds that he might run if there will be no other choice which could not happen because of Poe and Binay.
I would like to advise our countrymen that they can always go for Poe or Binay, he said.
Binay is the only one who has so far declared a bid for presidency.
Duterte said he is not convinced by his rating in surveys adding that some of his friends and members of his family are against his running for President.
I have a rebellion in my own backyard, he said.
Duterte, 70, also said his old age is among his considerations.
”I don’t know if it is now the time to retire or go for something troublesome and make you crazy like the presidency,” he said.
In the latest Pulse Asia survey, Duterte emerged as the third most-favored choice to become president, obtaining a rating of 15%.
He emerged as the fourth choice in the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey, getting 20%, a point below third placer, Interior Secretary Mar Roxas.
