Despite accusations that its project cost is overpriced, bidding is set for the P 17 billion Sasa Wharf Moddernization Project.
Five big companies have expressed interest yo bid: San Miguel Corp. (SMC), Davao International Container Terminal Inc., Portek International Limited, Madrid-based OHL Group/Obrascon Huarte Lain SA and French-owned Bollore SA.
The invitation to bid is open until June 30.
` The project involves finance, design, development and operation and maintenance of the wharf during a 30-year period.
Former Davao City councilor Peter Laviña had urged Transportation and Communication Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya Jr. and Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) general manager Juan Sta. Ana to abort the bidding saying the is over-priced.
Lavina has also asked the Ombudsman and Congress to conduct an investigation.
