Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte landed third place with 15 percent, posting a 10-point rise against survey results of only 5 percent in December, in the March survey of the Social Weather Station (SWS).
With his surging popularity, Duterte moved up the SWS list from 7th among the names that emerged last December.
Duterte tied at 3rd place with Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Mar Roxas.
Vice President Jejomar BInay is still in the lead but his 37 percent showing in December is down to 36 percent in the March survey.
But Senator Grace Poe, at No. 2, is closing the gap, gaining 10 statistical points – from 21 percent in December to 31 percent by March.
The SWS survey, published on Thursday by BusinessWorld, asked potential voters to name a preferred successor to President Benigno Aquino III, said a report in InterAksyon.com.
Duterte’s showing in the SWS survey is similar to results of a March 1-7 survey of Pulse Asia where he also landed third in a tie with Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada, behind top placer Binay and Poe. Duterte was at fourth place in the survey by Novo Trends also in March.
