While homegrown internet websites, blogs and social media help, netizens worldwide joining surveys by sites on “world best cities” are giving a big push to Davao City’s image before a large international audience.
In the worldwide web, two sites –Nomad List and Numbeo.com — have emerged to trumpet Davao City’s plus points, placing Mindanao’s premier metropolis among the world’s ‘safest cities’ and ‘ best cities’ to work and live in.
The user-based sites culled their figures from netizens in a survey to determine their choices.
The twin ‘best city’ choice by internet users validates before a worldwide audience Davao City’s image as a peaceful city flag-shipped by Mayor Rodrigo Duterte’s iron-fist anti-crime policy and as Mindanao’s trade and investment capital.
Davao City was preferred by Nomad List users for, among others, low cost of living and security of visitors and tourists. The last echoed the safest city pick last year of the Numbeo.com survey results.
According to Nomad List, a crowd-sourced internet website that collects data about cities around the world, Davao City tied with Hoi An, Vietnam, garnering 84 points, in Number 7 of its Top Ten list.
The Nomad List ranking was posted in a report by the website Kicker Daily News on October 28.
The selection criteria was based on cost of living, internet speed and local weather condition for people who do business on a short term.
Davao City is the only city in the Philippines that made it to the Top Ten list.
Other cities mentioned were Cebu City (20%), Palawan (12 %) and Manila with a negative 3 %.
