The Davao International Airport (Francisco Bangoy International Airport) in Davao City will undergo expansion worth P40 billion, ahead of projected increase in cargo and passenger volume and the 2015 Asean Integration that could rev up cross trading by the premier city of Mindanao with neighboring countries of Brunei, Indonesia and Malaysia.
The expansion project recommended by the Department of Transportation and Communication (DoTC) and approved by the National Economic Development Authority (Neda) was expected to start next year, said Neda-Davao Region director Maria Lourdes D. Lim.
Lim bared the multi-billion peso project during the Updated Davao Regional Development Plan 2014-2016 Roadshow held in Davao City recently.
Lim said Neda’s Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Center is now working on the bidding documents.
The expansion will start as soon as the project is bid out, said Lim.
We hope the bid documents will be finished within the year and the bidding to commence by the first quarter of next year, she said,
The expansion project includes infrastructure, facilities and equipment to enhance the operations and maintenance of Mindanao’s biggest airport.
When completed the expansion project would enhance safety, security, access, passenger and cargo movement efficiency, and operational efficiency of air navigation control, air navigation services, and associated services, according to Lim in her presentation at the roadshow. JOANNA C. BALANZA
