MONEY WOES HOBBLING ‘DUTERTE FOR PRESIDENT’
A presidential run in 2016 would need something like P10 billion to P15 billion.
Mayor Rodrigo Duterte said he does not have that money to explain why running for President in 2016 is out of his radar.
I am not running because I don’t have that amount, he said.
Duterte said he would not like to be saddled with a ‘debt of gratitude’ to those who would support his presidential bid and cough up donations to bankroll his candidacy to the tune of from P10 billion to P15 billion.
He also said he would frown on supporters picking up the tab for his presidential run, knowing that there would be payback time if he wins.
Duterte said the “debt of gratitude” would eventually spin off to corruption, with the financial backers converting their support to financial gains through award of government projects or accommodations.
