Even before it can be completed, a retirees’ haven for foreigners in Davao City has become a hit among seniors from foreign countries.
The P1 billion World Class Retirement Complex Inc. (WCRCI)’s Healing Garden of Asia in Catigan, Toril, Davao City is still securing permits from government agencies prior to construction set to start late next year.
WCRCI chief executive officer Carlos Vargas said the 5-hectare retirement haven is now getting bookings from retirees in Japan, Canada and the United States.
Vargas also said retirees associations from foreign countries have also scheduled visits for a look-see at the facilities.
Vargas said the complex of 12 parts with complete facilities and 36 housing units on each, is set to be completed in two years.
A proposed amendment to a Davao City ordinance will require hotels and other accommodation establishments to submit a monthly occupancy report.
The purpose of the amendment is to provide tourism planners with data base on volume of tourists and visitors arriving in the city and checking in into accommodation establishments.
“All accommodation establishments will submit to the City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO) a copy of their monthly occupancy report, ” said the amendment to the Amended Tourism Code of Davao City.
Accommodation establishments — categorized as hotels, resorts, self-styled accommodations, pension house or inn, and motels — will be penalized if they fail to submit the report. The Davao City Council has yet to approve the amendment.
