Majority of Filipinos are against the proposal to amend the 1987 Constitution to allow President Benigno Aquino to seek a fresh mandate after his term ends in 2016.
In the nationwide survey conducted by Pulse Asia during the period September 8-15 among 1,200 respondents, six in 10 Filipinos or 62 percent are not in favor of the move to allow President Aquino to run again for the presidency in 2016.
“We take the position that the voice of the people ought to be heard; the voice of the people ought to be listened to as a basis for decision-making,” Coloma said.
Pulse Asia said that opposition to the proposal allowing the President to seek another term is the “majority sentiment across socio-economic classes ABC, D, and E (61 to 65 percent) and geographic areas National Capital Region, rest of Luzon, and Mindanao (52 to 71 percent), with the Visayas being the exception (50 percent in favor versus 50 percent not in favor).”
It noted that opposition to the proposal is more manifested in Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon than in the Visayas and Mindanao (67 to 71 percent versus 50 to 52 percent).
