Public sentiment in Metro Manila wants Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte to run for President in the 2016 elections, according to the Center for Enterprise Advancement (CEA).
CEA, which has launched a nationwide movement to collect signatures and convince Duterte to run for the presidency in 2016, bared the public sentiment expressed in focus group discussions, in a recent forum at the Rembrandt Hotel in Manila.
DUTERTE FOR PRESIDENT MOVEMENT
CEA executive director Dave Diwa said his group has initiated a search for the most trusted leader who should run for president.
The search led to Duterte, said Diwa.
He said the focus group discussions, participated by youth, labor and business sectors, were conducted in about 20 locations in Metro Manila.
Diwa said in gauging people’s choice for the next president, CEA did not use face-to-face interviews because focus group discussions are the best way to capture the sentiment of the public.
In the discussions, according to Diwa, Duterte emerged the Number 1 pick for president, even as the Davao City mayor was not among those who have publicly expressed their intent to run for president in 2016 like Vice President Jejomar Binay, Interior Secretary Mar Roxas and Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano.
Diwa said discussion participants chose Duterte as the next President for his success in bringing peace and prosperity to Davao City.
