Davao City is going nowhere but up.
Mayor Rodrigo Duterte said Davao City’s progress is unstoppable as Dabawenyos were preparing for the 29th Kadayawan sa Dabaw Festival.
We hope to sustain the economic growth of the city, said Duterte in the Aug. 10 edition of the television program Gikan sa Masa Para sa Masa on ABS/CBN.
In the fullness of God’s time, we will continue to grow as the years go by, he said.
Duterte said signs of progress in Davao City are everywhere: flood of investors and tourists, employment, growing population and construction boom.
He said peace and order will remain a factor in the city’s march to progress and was grateful that no violent incidents occurred in the city this year.
He thanked the Dabawenyos, including the Mindanao Moro groups Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) and the communist New People’s Army (NPA) for sparing the city from violence.
They look at us with kindness, he said in the program hosted by lawyer Geraldine Chiu.
Spreading his wings of friendship farther, Duterte also thanked the “Mindanao terrorists” for keeping a distance from the city.
Tell us what is missing and we will correct it, said Duterte addressing the “terrorists” without giving names.
We should thank God that we have food, peace and jobs, he said in a message for the Kadayawan, the city’s annual thanksgiving festival.
Aside from peace and order, Duterte said the city’s smooth flight to progress should depend on the local leadership.
He advised “future leaders” of the city to keep in mind the secret of good and effective governance.
Make the city clean and safe, he said, adding these two are the priority needs of the people.
