The Davao City Police on Monday filed robbery with homicide charges against two suspects in the killing of businessman Ramon “TY” Garcia.
Charged were Daisy Joy Cachapero, 27, and her boyfriend Ariel John Jamora Liawan, 25, both residents of Sulop, Davao del Sur.
Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte praised police for the speedy resolution of the killing of Garcia whose family owns the Nanay Bebeng chain of restaurants in Davao City.
Duterte also credited the city’s high technology surveillance system. Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras planted in strategic areas of the city and operated by the Intelligent Operations Center of Davao City’s Public Safety Command Center (PSCC) played key role in the identification and eventual arrest of the suspects.
Cachapero and Liawan admitted the crime during investigation following their arrest Friday night in Sulop.
Garcia, from video footage captured by CCTV at the vicinity of Apo View Hotel, was with a girl companion aboard his car leaving the hotel dawn of Friday last week.
The car would also be videoed speeding towards Davao del Sur passing a Task Force Davao checkpoint in Sirawan.
Garcia’s body with stab wounds was found Friday night in a cliff in Malalag town also in Davao del Sur.
His burned car was discovered in Malungon, Sarangani on the same day.
Duterte on Monday commended Davao City Police Office officers led by director Sr. Supt. Vicente Danao for a “job well done.”
The officers are Insp. Alfred Santillana, SPO1 Rizaldo Suaga, PO1 Bhobit Jerome Tumuran, PO1 Peterson Amaguen, PO3 Risty Go, PO3 Roberto Jaca Jr., PO1 Frank Nissan Tuyor, and cartographer Edson Berdos.
