Former House Speaker Prospero Nograles is retiring from politics, according to his son Davao City First District Representative Karlo Nograles. The Speaker is not joining the 2013 elections, said the young Nograles after filing his Certificate of Candidacy with the Commission on Elections office in Davao City on Monday, October 1. Karlo is seeking reelection.

A close ally of former president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, Nograles was beaten in the 2010 mayoral race with more than 200,000 vote margin in the mayoral elections in Davao City by Mayor Sara Duterte.

Nograles’ badly disorganized Team Nograles, was expected to field a token slate against the local home-grown party Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod led by Mayor Sara Duterte and Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte in the coming May 2013 polls.
