Bukidnon ex-Mayor Galario slapped 6 years by Sandiganbayan

    The Sandiganbayan First Division has slapped a sentence of 6 years imprisonment  on former Valencia City mayor Jose M. Galario Jr. after finding him guilty of violating Republic Act 3019 or the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act in connection with case filed by former budget officer Ruth P. Piano, who was replaced by Galario when he assumed as city mayor on July  2, 2001.
        Galario, also said to have been meted perpetual disqualification from public office will appeal the decision, according to radio reports. He said that the decision is not yet final and executory.
    Aside from six years of imprisonment, the reports said, Galario was also meted “perpetual disqualification from public office.”    
    Associate Justice Rafael Lagos of the Sandiganbayan First Division penned the decision with concurrence of Associate Justice Efren dela Cruz, First Division Chairperson and Associate Justice Rodolfo A. Ponferrada,  said reports on the Sandiganbayan  decision.
