Unnamed fault could shake Bukidnon anew

   CITY of VALENCIA – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said a new round of high intensity tremors could hit Bukidnon as the agency conducts a study on an unnamed fault that triggered the 5.6 magnitude earthquake that hit Bukidnon and neighboring provinces recently.
    Another earthquake could happen anytime, said PhilVocs Northern Mindanao Director Marcial Labinay.
    About 878 aftershocks followed the 3:44 a.m. September 4 tremor, said Labinay.
    The quake collapsed or partially damage houses and buildings including government structures particularly in barangays Lourdes, Guinoyoran, Tugaya, Lilingayon, Mt. Nebo, San Carlos and Bagontaas in this city.
    One died from heart attack and another was injured as the tremor shook schools, houses and other buildings in Barangay Kuya, Dagumbaan in Maramag town.
        Phivolcs identified the epicenter of the tectonic quake as 15 kilometers northwest of Maramag. The quake was felt in Malaybalay, Cagayan de Oro, Kidapawan, Butuan, Cotabato and Arakan, North Cotabato.
    Labinay said Phivolcs is currentlly studying the unnamed fault in Bukidnon along with earthquake generators in Misamis Oriental, known as the Central Mindanao Fault, Cabanglasan Fault and Tagoloan Fault. MEL N. VELEZ
