LYR Group of Companies topman Larry Rubinos has joined the snowballing business sector support to the Tagum City Chairs For Schools Project (CFSP) of Mayor Rey Uy by chipping in P500,000 for paint materials for school furnitures farmed out free to public schools. The free school chair program, backed up by the Department of Education (DepEd) manufactures desks, chairs and tables out of illegal logs seized by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). The school furnitures are then distributed free to public elementary and high schools. Rubinos, top honcho of the LYR Group, is the latest member of the business secfor who had given support to the Uy project. Earlier the Rotary Club of Tagum also donated P500,000 to the project.
The Tagum City-based LYR Group, mainly into appliance and lending, has branched out into several provinces throughout Mindanao making it one of the fastest growing businesses that have its roots in Tagum City. LYR is also behind Rubi Grand Showroom in Bangkal, Davao City, which is touted as Mindanao’s largest appliance showroom.
The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor) has also donated P2.7 million assuring continuation of the free chairs project that has gained praise for the Tagum City mayor.
Mayor Uy has thanked Rubinos, the Rotary and Pagcor, saying the donations come as a saving grace to many public schools badly needing school furnitures but have no funds to buy them.
Since August last year, CFSP has already given out a total of 66, 339 chairs across the country.
