It is inevitable that President Aquino and Vice President Jejomar Binay will part ways come the 2016 elections, since they belong to different political parties, a Palace official said.
Deputy Presidential Spokeswoman Abigail Valte said that Aquino and Binay will likely have and endorse two different tickets and standard-bearers in the 2016 elections.
Valte noted that there will be ”divergence in endorsing candidates” since the President belongs to the Liberal Party (LP) while Binay heads the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban).
”Let me make it clear, it’s not a clash but an inevitable parting of ways because they belong to two different parties. They will be endorsing two different standard bearers,” she said over Radyo ng Bayan.
Valte, however, expressed confidence that Binay will continue to rally behind the President’s reforms against poverty and corruption.
”What’s important at this particular time is the support for the programs, for the reform agenda of the President,” she added.
Binay has recently forged an alliance with former President Joseph Estrada’s party called the ”United Nationalist Coalition” in preparation for the 2013 senatorial polls. Binay has already admitted that he intends to run for president in the 2016 elections.
Valte, on the other, declined to comment on the analysis of former Senator Ernesto Maceda that a vote for Chief Justice Renato Corona in the impeachment trial means a vote of support for Binay.
”I have seen the analysis of former Senator Maceda on that issue and I don’t know if the Vice President shares the same position because the President has a clear position on the impeachment,” she said.
