Mayor Rodrigo Duterte said he would exercise supervisory control over the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) if another kidnapping happens in the city.
His plan would bring him back to the National Police Commission (Napolcom) as deputy police supervisor, from which he resigned last year.
“One more kidnapping and I will resume as police supervisor. If there is any serious crime committed that will affect the people, then I will assume as police supervisor,” said the mayor in Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy’s Give Us this Day television program.
Duterte earlier said a shipping executive had been abducted last week. The victim, who was not identified, reportedly fled with his family to Canada after his release by the kidnappers on a P20 million ransom.
Duterte said that once he assumes the Napolcom post there will be strict implementation of the campaign against criminals.
We will follow the same standards but the some people may not like the execution of the laws, he said hinting he would adopt an iron-fist approach against the kidnappers.
Duterte resigned the Napolcom post last year following the probe by the Commission on Human Rights into the spate of summary executions allegedly by the Davao Death Squad, that the rights body said was being tolerated by the city government.
